چکیده

Abstract In recent decades, the use of forwarders in agroforestry systems has been increasing. systems, possibility to these machines various operational contexts allows reduction hourly costs and favors its also small enterprises. Europe, or farm forestry represents an important resource that offers alternative more sustainable land uses agricultural areas. By covering large areas, fruit orchards represent source income, but they require annual pruning which leaves abundant residues on ground. And when production declines, trees are dismantled make room for new ones. This study evaluated performance biomass recovery from apple using a HSM 208 F forwarder. Time studies were implemented estimate productivity fuel consumption forwarding operations. Data was collected by means GPS unit, video camera electric pump, 30 work cycles divided into elemental tasks monitored. Models time as function extraction distance developed least-square simple regression, at different scales needed characterize The average ca. 830 m net gross rates 21.79 15.35 loose 3 h ? 1 (volume woodchips produced), respectively. provides reference data operations demonstrates successful sector.

Robotic Surveying of Apple Orchards

We present a novel system for surveying apple orchards by counting apples and estimating apple diameters. Existing surveying systems resort to active sensors, or high-resolution close-up images under controlled lighting conditions. The main novelty of our system is the use of a traditional low resolution stereo-system mounted on a small aerial vehicle. Vision processing in this set up is challe...

Automated Crop Yield Estimation for Apple Orchards

Crop yield estimation is an important task in apple orchard management. The current manual sampling-based yield estimation is time-consuming, labor-intensive and inaccurate. To deal with this challenge, we developed a computer vision-based system for automated, rapid and accurate yield estimation. The system uses a two-camera stereo rig for image acquisition. It works at nighttime with controll...

Assessment of Phylloplane Micro-organism Populations in Canterbury Apple Orchards

Micro-organism populations on the leaf surface can be an indicator of environmental health in orchards. A method was developed to detect changes in these populations in apple orchards. Firstly, the variation within orchards was investigated by sampling leaves from seven locations within four trees in spring and autumn. The population density and species richness of micro-organisms when grown on...

Cost-benefit trade-offs of bird activity in apple orchards

Birds active in apple orchards in south-eastern Australia can contribute positively (e.g., control crop pests) or negatively (e.g., crop damage) to crop yields. Our study is the first to identify net outcomes of these activities, using six apple orchards, varying in management intensity, in south-eastern Australia as a study system. We also conducted a predation experiment using real and artifi...

Predators of the rosy apple aphid, Dysaphis plantaginea (Pass.), in Asturian (NW Spain) apple orchards

Alternative strategies to the common practice of spraying with insecticide in order to control the rosy apple aphid Dysaphis plantaginea (Pass.) (Homoptera: Aphididae) are required. Biological control by natural enemies is a possible tool. In Asturies, despite the tradition of growing local cider apple trees, there are no studies about the community of D. plantaginea predators and their impact ...
